Technical hiring at volume in India
India hosts 2,117 global capability centres operating across 3,728 units and employing around 2.36 million professionals as of FY26. That is a population count rather than a market size, and it matters here for one reason: those centres hire the same engineering roles, from the same pool, in the same cities, each of them designing its own first round.
At that concentration the interview bar is set by volume rather than by scarcity. A single mid-level listing draws more applications overnight than the team can read in a week, and a process that held together while the pile was readable does not survive once it isn't. The common response is to raise the keyword threshold in the ATS, which reduces volume without improving signal, because keyword density is a property of how a résumé was written rather than of what the person can do.
The harder half is that the shortlist has to stay defensible while it gets faster. A recruiter can defend a handful of manual screens from memory. At the volume these centres actually run, memory is not a defence, and the record of what was asked and what was demonstrated is what the person making the call has to stand on.
